브라운 아이드 소울 정규 4집, 흑인 음악 연대기 “Soul Cooke”

다채롭게 차려진 소울 만찬 “Thank your soul cook!”

이번 정규 4집의 온전한 타이틀은 “Soul Cooke”. 카세트테이프를 풀어 파스타처럼 만들어 낸 재치 있는 커버처럼 흑인 음악을 ‘요리’라는 콘셉트 안에서 풀었다. 음악을 요리한다는 콘셉트로 시대별 흑인 음악들을 한 앨범에 담는 시도를 했다. 1970년대부터 2000년대에 이르기까지의 시대를 대표하는 흑인 음악 스타일들을 요리하듯 녹여냈다.

타이틀에 담긴 또 하나의 디테일은 요리의 단어를 ‘cook’이 아닌 ‘cooke’으로 쓴 부분. 소울 레전드 샘 쿡(Sam Cooke)의 성에 붙어 있는 ‘e’를 넣어 소울 레전드에 대한 존경을 표현했다.
