björk oralWatch at the source
Oral, a collaboration between Icelandic artist Björk and Spanish singer Rosalía, was released on November 21, 2023, as a charity single to protest against open net-pen fish farming in Iceland. Originally written by Björk in 1998, the track blends dancehall-inspired rhythms with pop sensibilities. The music video, directed by Carlota Guerrero, features AI-generated avatars of the artists engaging in choreographed martial arts, symbolizing unity and resistance against environmental threats. Proceeds from the song support the non-profit organization AEGIS in their legal battle against industrial salmon farming.
Björk and Rosalía are donating all their rights to income generated by this song to the AEGIS non-profit organisation to combat open pen fish farming in Iceland. Their record companies have agreed to do the same. All funds raised will support legal fees for protesters, taking action to stop the development of intensive farms that harm wildlife, deform fish, and pose risks to salmon's DNA and survival. Immediate action is crucial.
