Danny Brown Radio SongWatch at the source
Fool’s Gold and Reservoir Recordings are proud to present Danny Brown’s new underground opus, XXX , the 2011 breakthrough album from Detroit's Danny Brown.
The first full-length release from Danny since his acclaimed The Hybrid in 2010, XXX is a concept record about hedonism, growing up, and Detroit, taking listeners on a profane and psychedelic journey through the uncensored mind of rap’s most electric MC. There’s no laundry list of guest appearances or producers-for-hire, keeping the focus squarely on Danny and his rhymes: a triple stack of pop culture references and did-he-really-say-that? provocations atop the heart of a poet.
The album is structured like a vinyl record with two distinct sides. Side A is a relentless, hedonistic party, showcasing Brown's now-iconic high-pitched squawk. Over chaotic, electronic-infused beats, he delivers shocking, hilarious, and depraved bars about drugs, sex, and debauchery on tracks like "Die Like a Rockstar," "Monopoly," and "Blunt After Blunt."
But the party has to end. Side B is the dark, devastating comedown. Brown's voice drops to a more somber, desperate tone as he confronts the grim reality of his life: crippling addiction ("DNA"), deep poverty in a decaying Detroit ("Fields," "Scrap or Die"), and the crushing anxiety of being a 30-year-old rapper with no future. XXX is not just an album; it's a raw, unfiltered confessional from one of modern rap's most unique and brilliant minds.
