DOLLA UGLYWatch at the source

DOLLA invites you to discover a darker and more mystical side of Malaysian culture through the music video for their latest single, ‘UGLY’. Drawing inspiration from the legend of Mahsuri, a story of how a false accusation and baseless judgement brought seven generations of bad luck and misfortune upon the island of Langkawi.

Now reimagined through DOLLA’s lens, three women condemned for being misunderstood refuse to be defined by the narratives imposed upon them. Instead, they choose to reclaim their power and rewrite their endings on their own terms.

The music video also highlights Wayang Kulit, a traditional form of shadow-puppet theatre practiced in both Malaysia and Indonesia, where intricately crafted puppets are brought to life through light, shadow, music and storytelling.
