• Artist: Dr. John (Malcolm John Rebennack Jr.) • Release Year: 1984 • Record Label: Streetwise Records • Writer: Ed Fletcher (Duke Bootee) • Producer: Duke Bootee • Recorded At: Unique Recording Studio, New York City

The track is well-known among electronic and breakbeat collectors for its electro production by Duke Bootee (co-creator of "The Message").

The music video for Dr. John’s "Jet Set" was directed and produced by Michael Deane, with cinematography by Marc Hirschfeld and unit production management by Jeff Murray. According to Deane, the video holds a minor historical milestone as one of the very first rap-influenced music videos to break into MTV's rotation.

The Theme: The video mirrors the literal lyrics of the song—the concept of "jet-setting" across the globe (referencing cities like London, Paris, Moscow, and Tokyo) without ever actually leaving the ground.

The "Tight-Budget" Aesthetic: Because the production had virtually "no money", the international locations were represented using highly stereotypical, low-budget local substitutes in New York City. For instance, a close-up of a street hot dog stand stands in for a global culinary tour, Moscow is represented by a woman named Natasha, and Tokyo is depicted by a white woman dressed in a kimono.

1984 Hip-Hop Elements: True to the emerging street culture of 1984, the video features classic New York City street scenes, graffiti backdrops, and local "break-boys" breakdancing to Duke Bootee's electro beats.

Behind-the-Scenes Challenges: Director Michael Deane has noted that making the video was a major challenge due to the lack of funds and Dr. John's personal struggles at the time, which required taking the legendary musician to a clinic twice a day during the shoot.
