Now everything she built is ash. With a rusted chain around her wrist she walks north through the blizzard, wades into an icy river at dawn and comes up clean. The village watches in silence as she knocks on the old wooden door. In the candlelit church the people clap and stomp, and at the front sits the old man who never stopped waiting.
