HALLAN SOLOMONWatch at the source
Solomon, from our debut album What’s a Heaven For?, out 29 January 2027 via Mystery of Things.
The Solomon video grew out of the realities of independent production: how do you bring history into everyday life with a tight budget and little time? We started from that constraint and wanted something grounded in real life. The video ends up a long way from reality, and that escape became its subject. We filmed in and around Portsmouth, in places that have marked different moments of the band’s history. The story draws on something real too: the four of us are teachers as well as musicians, and we wanted to explore how those two sides live together and feed each other. Conor plays a teacher who becomes fascinated by the story of Solomon, to the point where he starts seeing traces of the past in a knight who seems to follow him everywhere. The fascination turns into an obsession, but it also opens up a space where he can let go, dance and express himself differently. For a few seconds he even steps into the shoes of a historical figure himself. For the length of a song, the two worlds answer each other.
