Keith Whitley Don’t Close Your EyesWatch at the source

A poignant country ballad by Keith Whitley, released in March 1988 as the third single from his album of the same name. Written by Bob McDill, the song tells the story of a man in love with a woman who is still haunted by memories of her past relationship. It reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart on August 13, 1988, and was named Billboard's number-one country single of the year. The music video, directed by Michael McClary, complements the song's heartfelt narrative.
