Omotola is a Los Angeles-based artist hailing from Fresno whose deep, ethereal vocals bring to mind influences like Florence + the Machine and POLIÇA. Raised on R&B, pop, and Nigerian music, she sang in choirs for over a decade and describes having an eclectic palate that is guided by a sense of nostalgia as much as a yearning to discover new sounds.
“ITMOI” is Omotola’s debut single and will be the second artist release from Chewing Inc., a label launched by Local Natives’ Nik Ewing. Produced by Ewing and mixed by Brian Joseph (Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens), the song centers around a hard goodbye, the resulting sense of loneliness, and the emotional depth gained from the experience. “There’s a certain heaviness to the song, but then again it’s forward-moving and chantlike in the verses… there’s a sort of therapy to it,” Omotola says of the dreamy single.
