Peter Gabriel SteamWatch at the source
Steam, released in 1993 as part of Peter Gabriel’s US album, features a visually stunning music video directed by Stephen R. Johnson. Known for his previous work on Gabriel's iconic videos for "Sledgehammer" and "Big Time," Johnson filled the "Steam" video with vibrant digital imagery and symbolic themes. The video won the Grammy Award for Best Music Video in 1994, along with two MTV Video Awards for Best Visual Effects and Best Editing in 1993.
The second single from Peter's sixth album, US, was released in 1993.
The album US continued the now well-established Gabriel motif of mixing high technology with decidedly analogue contributions from musicians from West Africa, Egypt and Armenia. Reunited with Daniel Lanois as co-producer, Peter extends the hand of collaboration to Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones, Brian Eno, Peter Hammill and Sinead O’Connor.
